About Me

Dr. Kurt Barry is an independent smart contract security researcher, a DeFi industry veteran and a senior technical editor at KeyForDEX.

His academic foundation rests on fundamental science: Kurt earned a PhD in Physics at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), one of the world's leading universities for engineering and exact sciences. His ability to decompose vastly complex physical systems made him the ideal architect for the financial mathematics of blockchain.

From 2018 to 2023, Kurt rose from developer to Smart Contract Lead at MakerDAO — the protocol that created the DAI stablecoin and laid the foundations of the entire decentralized finance sector. MakerDAO is considered the "gold standard" of security: its protocol core has never been compromised. At Maker, Kurt was one of the key engineers who designed the Multi-Collateral Dai (MCD) architecture, liquidation logic and the safe integration of real-world assets (RWA).
